The TE37 Saga SL is a wheel that needs little introduction. Rays Engineering has been at the forefront of wheel technology for years, and the TE37 has become an iconic choice for car enthusiasts and racers alike. Known for its ultra-lightweight construction and exceptional strength, the TE37 Saga SL is built to perform under extreme conditions— whether on the track or the street. Made from Rays’ proprietary forged aluminum, these wheels provide optimal weight reduction without compromising strength which made it the perfect choice for this collaboration.
What was the issue?
Before our collaboration with Rays, the only available sets of TE37 SL or Saga SL were sized at 18x9.5+40 or 43. The main issues on the new generation BRZ & GR86 is the limited space within the front inner wheel-well accompanied by the new rear fender flare design (the rear fender garnish that attaches to the rear bumper). Because of it's presence, modification is needed. Below is a little bit of detail of that process for those who still look to run a set of OG TE37 SL.
Front Wheel Inner Clearance
We have experienced that with an aggressive tyre and rim size combo, you may experience rubbing on the inner suspension on full wheel lock. The most suitable way to combat this issue on the new gen BRZ and GR86 is a good set of adjustable coilovers with camber adjustment and dampening tophats. By choosing the right suspension mods, you will be able to fit the desired wheel spec.
Rear Fender Flares
Beneath the rear fender flare that meets the quater panel, there is a metal extension from the chasis that inhibits the ability to fit anything more aggressive than an 18x9.5 sized wheel with offsets ranging from +38 to +45. In order to combat this, we had to shave this metal protusion down with a belt sander to ‘create’ more clearance for an aggressive wheel and tyre combo. Fortunately, the new fender flares hide the modification and will not be visible if done correctly. This is the go-to solution if you don’t want to compromise tyre size or rim size.
The Perfect Fit the GR86 and BRZ
When we teamed up with Rays, the goal wasn’t just to deliver a set of wheels that look good. It was about creating a product that fit perfectly with the new GR86 and BRZ. The TE37 Saga SL wheels size is 18x9+39. As many would know, the TE37 SL and Saga S-Plus in a 9 or 9.5 profile would require you trim the rear guard to avoid scrubbing. For many, the 9 and 9.5 profile is desirable because of the face-3 concave, however, in this case, the trade off was the need for fender modification. The beauty of these new ZO x Rays TE37’s is that they will now fit perfectly, without shaving that rear guard, yet maintain that face-3 concave. This specific fitment provides an ideal balance between a wider stance for improved grip and a more aggressive look, while still offering the precise fitment you need to maintain proper clearance.
